Floods Force Relocation of Over 100,000 in Pakistan

(MENAFN) More than 100,000 residents have been moved to secure zones as surging floodwaters engulf parts of Pakistan’s southern Sindh province, authorities announced on Friday.

Sindh’s Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon confirmed that a total of 109,320 individuals have been transferred to protected areas close to riverbanks.

"Most people have been evacuated from Katcha areas as precautionary measures," Memon stated.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) also released alerts in multiple districts, warning of intensifying floodwaters in the Sutlej and Chenab rivers.

"The River Indus at Guddu is expected to reach high to very high flood levels from September 7th to 8th," the PDMA noted in a separate declaration.

The meteorological department forecasted heavy rainfall beginning Saturday in Sindh, Punjab, Gilgit Baltistan, Kashmir, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces.

In preparation, the Sindh administration has already set up emergency shelters in safer locations for displaced populations.

Rescue units and health services have also been dispatched across flood-vulnerable zones to guarantee prompt evacuation and medical assistance.

Floodwaters have now begun spilling into Sindh after previously causing destruction in the northern territories and northeastern Punjab region.
