IAOVC and NAGA Host August Solidarity Session and Broaden Call to All Heritage Communities To Participate next Tuesday
When Two Communities Chose Unity Over Division - And Invite Everyone Else to Join
NORTHVALE, NJ, UNITED STATES, August 18, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- In an era when cultural identity is too often treated as a battleground, two American communities are proving that heritage does not have to divide us — it can unite us. The Italian American One Voice Coalition ("IAOVC") and the Native American Guardians Association ("NAGA") will host their monthly **Solidarity Session** via Zoom on **Tuesday, August 25 at 8:00 PM EDT**, and are extending an open invitation to members of *all* ethnic and heritage communities to join the conversation.Registration is free and open to the public at:

**A Milestone Alliance Built on Mutual Defense, Not Self-Interest**
The partnership between Italian Americans and NAGA began from a simple but radical premise: that communities fighting to preserve their heritage are stronger allies than rivals. NAGA has stood with Italian Americans in support of preserving Columbus Day, while Italian Americans have stood with NAGA in defending Native American imagery, names, and traditions — including team names such as the Redskins and Chiefs — from erasure. Neither organization asked the other to abandon its own history to gain support; each simply chose to defend the other's.
"These sessions exist because we understood something the loudest voices in this debate too often miss," said Andre' DiMino, President, IAOVC. "You don't have to tear one community's heritage down to lift another's up. When we defend each other's history, we're not creating division — we're ending it."
**Why the Sessions Matter Now**
Cancel culture and revisionist pressure campaigns have targeted holidays, monuments, names, and traditions across dozens of American ethnic and cultural communities — often community by community, in isolation, with each group left to fight alone. The Solidarity Sessions were created to break that isolation by building a standing coalition where heritage communities defend one another rather than compete for a shrinking share of public recognition.
Held monthly over Zoom, the sessions bring together representatives of Italian American organizations from across the country alongside NAGA officers to share strategy, build relationships, and demonstrate — publicly and repeatedly — that unity across ethnic lines is not only possible but effective.
**An Open Invitation to Every Heritage Community**
With the August 25 session, IAOVC and NAGA are formally broadening their invitation beyond the founding partnership. Representatives and members of Irish, Polish, Greek, Jewish, African American, Asian American, Hispanic, Middle Eastern, and every other heritage community are invited to attend, listen, and explore how the same model of mutual defense could extend to their own traditions and history.
"This was never meant to be a two-community club," stated DiMino. "It was meant to be a proof of concept. If Italian Americans and Native Americans — two communities with very different histories — can stand shoulder to shoulder in defense of each other's heritage, there is no reason every heritage community in this country can't do the same."
