Saskatchewan Ministers Forge Pathways in India

CANADA, October 10 - Released on October 9, 2026

In 2025, exports to the country totaled $827 million.

Today, Minister of Trade and Export Development Warren Kaeding is leading a mission to India to advance trade and investment opportunities with the country. Minister of Advanced Education Ken Cheveldayoff will join the delegation to meet with several post-secondary institutions. The mission will run from October 10 to 16, 2026.

While in India, Kaeding will meet with business leaders, stakeholders and government officials focused on food security, critical minerals, energy and sustainability.

"Saskatchewan has found a strong and reliable partner in India," Kaeding said. "We are looking forward to further strengthening this relationship in the days ahead. As we continue to grow our province's economy for the benefit of the people of Saskatchewan, India remains an important partner to advance our shared food and energy security priorities."

Cheveldayoff's meetings will advance discussions with higher education government counterparts, as well as leading post-secondary and research institutions, deepening existing relationships and strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual interest. The mission will promote Saskatchewan's agricultural expertise, expand research and academic collaboration and position the province as a partner of choice in addressing complex global challenges.

"International partnerships are essential to advancing Saskatchewan's opportunities for researchers and post-secondary institutions," Cheveldayoff said. "This mission allows Saskatchewan to highlight our innovative strengths, helping build connections that support knowledge exchange, research excellence and long-term economic growth."

Both Ministers will represent Saskatchewan as part of the federal government's Team Canada Trade Mission programming on October 14 in Mumbai.

Representatives from the University of Saskatchewan (USask) will also be attending.

"As USask continues to develop its international partnerships, it's vital we grow our ongoing academic and industry relationships and support Saskatchewan's trade priorities," USask Vice President of Research Baljit Singh said. "We are excited to once again work with the Government of Saskatchewan and partner in this exciting mission to India."

India is a major trading partner with Saskatchewan. In 2025, exports to the country totaled $827 million, with top export products being potash, lentils and peas. This year, trade to the country has increased 155 per cent year-to-date.

Saskatchewan's India office has proven invaluable to increasing trade, boosting exports and strengthening the province's international relationships. The province's most recent mission in March resulted in a historic signing between Cameco and India's Department of Atomic Energy worth $2.6 billion.
